Position Overview


The Land Coordinator will oversee and manage activities related to on-reserve land, including economic endeavors and construction projects on nation-owned land.

This role entails monitoring land usage, facilitating title transfers, negotiating third-party agreements, handling administrative tasks, and liaising with landowners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities also include reporting on land activities, advising on land acquisition procedures, and ensuring compliance with certified possession regulations. Building strong relationships with community members, government entities, and land users is a key aspect of this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Land Acquisition and Environmental Coordination:
  • Coordinate with environmental consultants and internal monitors during land acquisition processes, including due diligence, valuation, negotiations, and capital planning.
  • Negotiate landrelated agreements, such as royalty, lease, permission to enter, and boundary agreements.
  • Manage and protect natural resources to prevent trespassing without proper permits.
  • Ensure compliance with land use codes and lot numbering, maintaining accurate records of land ownership.

GIS Integration and Lot Demarcation:

Ensure accurate demarcation and numbering of lots to prevent encroachment, capturing reserve land in the GIS system for efficient management.


  • Community Development and Expansion: Lead community planning for land expansion and development, including residential, capital projects, and industrial layouts.

Records Management:
Oversee the administration of Witset First Nation lands, managing leases, permits, and land titles. Maintain accurate records related to land tenure and conduct research on regulatory requirements and best practices.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate with external agencies, government departments, and community members on land management issues and initiatives. Facilitate community engagement and consultation processes for land use planning and development projects.
  • Policy Development and Alignment: Provide guidance and support to Witset First Nation leadership on land management decisions and policies. Collaborate with internal departments to ensure alignment with land management objectives.
  • Continuous Learning and Compliance: Stay informed about relevant legislation, policies, and industry trends impacting Witset First Nation land management.
  • All other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications-Training, Education, Experience

  • Management of all land use planning and related land approvals required to support any land use activity.
  • Knowledge of the Land Act, Indian Act, and other legislation governing Indigenous land transactions.
  • 510 years of relevant experience in natural resource management, environmental consulting and/or relevant related practical experience is desirable.
  • Postsecondary education or experience equal to the job responsibilities and specifications.
  • Hardworking, detailoriented, and analytical professional with strategic mindset.
  • Proven strength in analysis and creative problem solving, communication, interpersonal relationships, selfmotivation, and leadership.
  • Ability to manage and/or coordinate large development projects while working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of google maps, earth, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Current Class 5 BC Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
  • Satisfactory criminal record check including vulnerable sector check.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office setting and other community settings. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. Occasional travel to attend meetings or training is required.
