Environmental Remediation Specialist.

In this role, you will be involved in assessing site history and field characterization to determine the current status of contamination, determining the potential impacts from contamination to human and ecological receptors, establishing remediation goals to mitigate the potential impacts, assessing remedial options and selecting and implementing the recommended remediation strategy.

The position includes a balance between remediation planning, technology evaluation, execution of field activities, and documentation.

The Environmental Remediation Specialist will directly support the Land Use and End-State initiative by providing direct technical support and supporting the communications team in any engagements with the public, First Nations and Metis.

What will you be doing?

  • Assessing the site history of known impacted areas.
  • Confirming/developing conceptual site models for contaminant movement.
  • Conducting and/or coordinating field characterization.
  • Performing and/or facilitating risk assessments, including Site-Wide Environmental Remediation Analysis and Waste Management Area Trench Safety Case to understand the human health and ecological risks.
  • Performing and/or facilitating remedial options evaluations based on risk assessments.
  • Participating in the development of work plans and procedures for the execution of Environmental Remediation fieldwork.
  • Developing and coordinating resources for the operation and construction of new remediation systems.
  • Executing and/or facilitating the executions of the remedial work.
  • Coordinating the disposition of the wastes resulting from remediation.
  • Completing project closeout and other documentation to support WL Site End State.
  • Contributing to developing protective, riskbased remedial goals/cleanup criteria for various environmental media.
  • Following the Integrated Work Control Process.
  • Providing detailed review and comment on technical documents related to the CNL Environmental Remediation and Environmental Protection at WL.
  • Reviewing and accepting deliverables from Contractors.
  • Working with trades, project staff, radiation protection, operations and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to planning and executing the CNL Environmental Remediation and Decommissioning programs.
  • Preparing technical reports and researching tools, equipment and techniques used in Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security".
  • Bachelor (Honours) in Engineering or Environmental Science from a university of recognized standing or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
  • A minimum of 510 years of related experience in the field of Environmental Remediation augmented with suitable knowledge in the nuclear field.
  • Good interpersonal skills that are required to interact with team members, internal suppliers, operations' representatives, external contractors, project stakeholders, CNL management, and client organization.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to gather, analyze, and assemble a variety of technical information.
  • Results driven and able to interpret project needs and implement solutions.
  • Awareness of standards, regulatory requirements, best available methodologies in remediation, characterization, and risk assessment as they pertain to nuclear remediation work.
  • Awareness of federal and provincial (Manitoba) guidelines and regulations for environmental site assessment.
  • Knowledge of environmental sampling methods to ensure adequate characterization of sites to established data quality objectives.
  • Field work experience in site characterization and remediation.
  • Familiarity with remedial technologies and techniques.
  • An understanding of groundwater, effluent and other types environmental monitoring.
  • Experience with large scale environmental remediation projects.
  • Experience with statistical analyses, especially pertaining to site characterization data.
