Fermentation Intern:
Main Functions:
Key responsibilities of the fermentation intern include operating a 20L bioreactor and all the related tasks to get ready the fermentation (sterilization, CIP, calibration of pumps, pH/Oxygen Dissolve probes, etc) and the preparation of raw material for the fermentations.
The fermentation intern will be executing R&D projects related to yeast growth, by planning, organizing, and performing yeast propagations in the 20L fermenters (involving upstream and downstream).
Also, the research trainee will perform analysis such as optimization of processes, enzymatic tests or scale-up can take place, so a detailed analysis of results is an asset.
Periodically, the research intern will be reporting the results in an oral format and will be asked to write reports about the results obtained in the lab.
The Research Trainee will work in a dynamic team that requires efficient interactions and communication.By assisting in different projects, the trainee will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience and a better understanding of yeast physiology, yeast fermentation conditions and techniques under industrial conditions.
Specific tasks associated with this position include, but are not limited to:- Conduct various R&D activities;
- Conduct fermentation activities in the process lab;
- Operate multiple hightech equipment's: bioreactor, separator, spraydryer, fluidized bed dryer, filterpress, extruder, freezedryer and more;
- Analyze and report fermentation/experiment results in written or oral format;
- Conduct a variety of lab QC analyses and technical procedures when required;
- Keep a clean and safe environment in the lab.
Technical skills:
Required
- Technical or BSc degree in Laboratory technique, Biotechnology, Biology, Microbiology, Chemical or Biotechnical Engineering or any relevant discipline;
- Relevant laboratory experience, in school or in internships
- Good communication skill
- Relevant computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc).
- Experience in yeast fermentation and processing;
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills;
- Bilingual (English & French).
