About the Role:

The Employment Services of John Howard Society is funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.

Its goal is to provide support to individuals to obtain sustainable employment through a full suite of services that include Information/Resource, Client Service Planning and Coordination, Job Search, Job Placement and Matching and Job Retention.

This position is responsible for a blended role of employment counselling and job development.

As an Employment/Employer Advisor you will conduct employment intake interviews/assessments with participants and support employers with their hiring needs and recruitment.


This position would:
counsel, advocate, assess and monitor participants, clarify employment and educational needs, and establish short
- and long-term goals. You will emphasize monitoring and follow-up interventions with participant that promote long term job retention.

You will manage an assigned caseload and achieve performance targets as determined by agency and funder.

You will be responsible for developing training and action plans, maintaining required records, documentation and statistical information for reporting and accountability purposes.


You'll be working on things like:

Service User Support

  • Conduct onetoone intake and assessments through a variety of tools in order to assist job seekers to identify skills, interests, abilities, and aptitudes.
  • Identify and support through effective case management and referrals necessary life stabilization supports that will support employment and training goals.
  • Achieve performance targets and outcomes and effectively manage assigned caseload; conduct followup with employers, job seekers and other service providers
  • Provide career development and exploration interventions and strategies to job seekers.
  • Provide information and referral to appropriate educational and training programs.
  • Provide job search strategies and interventions.
  • Prepare job seekers for employment placements.
  • Facilitate job development as a component of service plan.
  • Plan and deliver employment and labor market information workshops and workplace orientation to assist clients to develop their job search skills, strategies, and employment skills required to meet current labour market indicators.
  • Implement job retention strategies and job coaching.
  • Maintain accurate case documentation into agency data management files/systems and EOIS-Cams.

Case Management/Documentation

  • Use Cognitive Skills counselling or other counselling models to evaluate job readiness, negotiate readiness for change and develop a suitable action plan (where required)
  • Maintains uptodate case notes, progress reports and client files with clear rationale for methods and intervention used, and statistical documentation in accordance with the program requirements. Must meet Documentation Quality Standards and provide accurate and timely data entry and filing procedures to the database.
**Community, Statistical Administration & Other

  • Work in partnership with LBS community and Employment Service Network to support effective service coordination.
  • Participate and contribute to program marketing/outreach plan and promote JHS training programs in the community.
  • Maintain monthly performance related statistical reports
  • Liaises with other program staff to ensure coordination between programs and utilizing available resources.
  • Make referrals to community agencies as deemed appropriate
  • Ensuring that all services are provided within the standards of service maintained by JHS and consistent with the agency's philosophical beliefs.
  • Monitor and maintain financial tracking where required
  • Completion of accurate statistics and reports
  • Ongoing development of new systems and record keeping methods to ensure funding requirements are met and all documentation is complete, accurate and accountable
  • Explore new resources to stay current and provide additional information on job search techniques and create alternate delivery methods
  • Representing the agency in the community when required
  • Attend workshops, meetings and seminars as requested
  • Other related duties as required
