Position summary:

The Laborer performs various manual tasks throughout the plant in accordance with occupational health and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all conditions in the collective agreement as well as health and safety policies and standards (CNESST) and standard operating procedures;
  • Participate and contribute to the company's safety program;
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment;
  • Use equipment and work safely;
  • Works cooperatively with a team to achieve production goals;
  • Installs endplates on the end of the ties;
  • Operates banding equipment;
  • Assists in the loading and unloading of materials;
  • Assist in loading and unloading charges;
  • Assisting with storage and inventory;
  • Wrap the ties (bundles);
  • Assist in opening and closing the dryer;
  • Assist in the maintenance of mobile equipment;
  • Label materials with appropriate product labels;
  • Participate in plant maintenance, cleaning, painting, maintenance of property and equipment;
  • Perform maintenance and landscaping tasks in summer and winter;
  • Assist at the various work stations (production line);
  • Perform other related tasks as required;

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • High school
  • Ability to read, write and count
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative
  • Able to operate a Forklift (an asset)
  • Good physical health
  • Ability to work outdoors different temperatures (cold or hot)

Additional information:

Environment:
Outdoor/indoor work, a lot of walking/moving. Sometimes extreme weather conditions, if outside

Physical Effort:
May have to lift material on occasion
Permanent, full-time unionized
Shifts - Can be for days and evenings

Hourly rate:
$28.47/hour. For the probation period, the rate is 80%.
