Express Employment Professionals has partnered with its exclusive client, BAE Systems , which provides some of the world's most advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace, and security solutions, for their recruitment needs in Dartmouth, NS.

The operations in Dartmouth are growing rapidly to directly support the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) contract with the Royal Canadian Navy, in designing and building Anti-Submarine Warship Frigates.

BAE Systems has an immediate hiring need for a Health, Safety and Environment Manager on a full-time permanent basis.

Reporting directly to the General Manager of the Dartmouth operations, the incumbent will be solely responsible for ensuring the company is in full compliance with HSE legislation and regulations, conducting daily site visits, providing advice and coaching to management, stakeholders, and contractors, and managing the H&S related training for all BAE staff at said location.

You will also be tasked with establishing the Joint Health & Safety Committee and hosting the JHSC meetings on a regular basis.

This is a pivotal role in establishing and maintaining a world class HSE program with the help of large international resources.

~ Using a Business Partner approach, advise and coach the management team, colleagues, stakeholders and contractors on various Health, Safety and Environment legislation and best practices
Provide competent and comprehensive HSE governance, advice and support to teammates, enabling them to manage HSE within their respective areas
Stay up to date on HSE legislation and regulations while ensuring the company is in full compliance at all times
Conduct risk assessments at both the BAE office and the ship building site, as well as any other locations that arise where a local BAE employee might conduct work
Monitor, manage and coordinate employee HSE training and documentation
Conduct HSE training with internal employees
Act as the head of the JHSC, organize and host JHSC meetings, manage and distribute documentation and oversee actionable items as a result of the meetings or other HSE concerns brought forward
Visit ship building site on a daily basis to ensure continuous compliance
Support the selection, assessment and onboarding of all contractors/suppliers for the CSC Program
Must have a clean criminal record and be able to pass a security assessment as per the Controlled Goods Program of Canada which requires applicants to be a Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen (work permit and study permit are not sufficient)
Must be eligible to obtain a Secret Level 2 Security Clearance
Minimum of 3 years' Health, Safety, and Environment Manager or Specialist/Advisor
Must possess Occupational Health & Safety diploma
JHSC Certified Level 1 & 2 is ideal
Proficient with full MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
Strong English communication skills both verbal and written

Flexible Work Schedule :

Monday to Friday – Can start between 7:30am to 9:00am, and finish between 4:00pm to 6:00pm (37 hours per week).
