Description:


As a Clinical Genetics Technologist (CGT) I, you will perform and interpret routine and complex testing for various genetic conditions using molecular and cytogenetic techniques according to established procedures.

You will also participate in results entry into the laboratory information system (LIS), report generation, quality control, proficiency testing, lab safety procedures, literature review, test method evaluation, and document writing.

Other duties include but are not limited to maintaining lab equipment and supplies, training students and fellows/residents, participating in accreditation activities, and pre-analytical testing processes including accessioning.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a Bachelor's degree plus advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics. Active or eligible for registration with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:


Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification in Clinical Genetics may be acceptable as an equivalent to an advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics.

Experience with human cytogenetic processing and analysis techniques including proper use of ISCN nomenclature and specialized computer imaging platforms for karyotyping and FISH analysis.

Experience with appropriate methodology and testing techniques applied in a molecular genetic laboratory, including but not limited to nucleic acid extraction, PCR, genotyping, sequencing as well as analytical software such as GeneMapper, Sequence Analysis, and SeqPilot.

Proven critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, planning, and decision-making skills.

Strong attention to detail as well as superior organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize work and deliver accurate work under stressful conditions.

Demonstrated ability to deal with conflicting and changing priorities, deadlines, and duties. English fluency with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
