POSITION:

Housing Support Worker - Full-Time Nights
(Sunday to Thursday 12am to 8am - 40 hours per week)

PAY:

$20.00 per hour, plus additional.55₵ premium pay per hour for overnights.

BENEFITS:

Time related benefits, including vacation and sick time.

:

  • Complete initial screening and make shelter arrangements for qualified youth accessing the Living Options for Youth (LOFY) Emergency Shelter Program.
  • Complete intake for youth accessing LOFY space.
  • Provide support and referrals for youth residing at LOFY.
  • Collaborating with the LOFY team and Case Manager, help youth in LOFY complete a Plan of Action for their stay and support assigned youth in the implementation of their goals.
  • Respond to inquiries about Shelterlink services.
  • Keep communication open with Case Manager to ensure awareness of any concerns, changes, and/or activities in shelter.
  • Complete documentation and statistics tracking/collection as requested and by deadlines given.
  • Ensure the safety and security of LOFY residence and staff at all times.
  • Attend monthly staff meeting.
  • Coordinate information based on youth suggestions and needs.
  • Respond appropriately to difficult behavioral situations, demonstrating professional judgement in emergency situations while adhering to established Shelterlink procedures & protocol.
  • Work as a member of a team within Shelterlink and with community partners.
  • Maintain professional case notes and files for each client while on shift.
  • Maintain confidentiality of organizational, staff and resident information.
**Perform other duties as assigned where they are a necessary function of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth, Social Work, Social Services, Psychology, or equivalent education.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification and First Aid Certificate considered an asset.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Sound organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of previous or similar experience with legislation, regulations, policy & procedures for program development & implementation AND involvement with youth in community programs.
  • Demonstrated skill in client assessment, advocacy and recording in confidential files.
  • Counselling, team building, negotiating & mediation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with vulnerable and marginalized populations from a harm reduction perspective and a trauma informed lens.
  • Knowledge of Perth County resources.
  • Knowledge or experience with programs and/or services related to the Housing First for Youth philosophy.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Enhanced computer literacy. Office administration, including experience in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to think quickly and act calmly in a crisis.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to the ongoing changes and unexpected events in shelter.
  • Ability to creatively develop and communicate unique solutions to youth, able to create positive energy and motivation within groups and individuals and demonstrates tolerance of ambiguity.
  • Demonstrates time management skills as it pertains to writing clear and concise notes for data management purposes.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
