ROLE SUMMARY


Reporting to the Government Grants Officer, the Government Grants Coordinator will support the Government Grants program in reaching its revenue and fundraising goals and supplying Ocean Wise with the grant funding it needs to protect and restore the world's oceans.

This is a part-time position.


This role has four main areas of responsibility: (1) grant administration and data management, (2) prospect research, (3) proposal writing and (4) portfolio management.


Working with Ocean Wise program leads and staff, the Grants Coordinator will help secure grants and wage subsidies from all levels of government to support conservation, research, education, capital and operational priorities.

As part of the Conservation team, the Grants Coordinator will also participate in and support team initiatives and events.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Administration and Data Management:

  • Enters key grant data in fundraising database in timely and accurate manner
  • Generates monthly reports to track program's progress throughout year
  • As needed, partners with Database Administrator to develop further reports that support the program's success
  • Maintains Government Grant's space on Ocean Wise's internal site, the Reef, developing and/or updating content as needed

Proposal Writing and Reporting:

  • As needed, coordinates financial and program reporting for confirmed grants, meeting all associated funder deadlines

Prospect Research:

  • Identifies prospective funders whose grants suit Ocean Wise's needs and passes them on to the appropriate Conservation teams
  • Simplifies research process by working with a service provider to automate searches
  • Summarizes key information on new and complex grant opportunities for go/nogo decisions and to guide proposal development

Portfolio Management:

  • Manages a pipeline of prospective and existing government and wage subsidy providers
  • Meets with existing and prospective funders by phone, video link or in person to explore new funding opportunities
  • Develops and implements cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for prospective and existing funders
Other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

You have:

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in grant writing, marketing and communications or a related field
  • Experience working with Raiser's Edge, Salesforce or a similar CRM database
  • Experience working in teams to complete complex, deadlinedriven projects

Skills

You:

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills and enjoy telling stories through writing and numbers
  • Have excellent time and task management skills
  • Understand how to read and develop budgets
  • Are skilled in preparing reports and tracking information
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Work efficiently with mínimal supervision, selfmonitor your workload, and identify opportunities to collaborate and to take initiative
  • Consistently demonstrate a high level of professionalism
  • Successfully maintain confidentiality where this is needed
  • Inspire confidence in colleagues, funders and partner organizations through your actions
  • Receive feedback with a positive, growth mindset and demonstrate prompt integration of feedback
  • Are interested in oceans and environmental conservation
Fluency in French or Spanish an asset.

Working Conditions

  • When in the office, the incumbent will work in a shared environment with the usual ergonomic risks
  • May be required to work weekends and/or have flexible work schedule
