The City of Nelson serves a resident population of just over 11,000, located in the Selkirk Mountains on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake in the Southern Interior of British Columbia. The Nelson Police Department has a committed leadership team and dedicated Sworn and Civilian members who proudly serve the City of Nelson.

The Nelson Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Inspector. The successful candidate will be a police professional who has a demonstrated record of experience, ethical decision making, innovative leadership and community collaboration. The new Inspector should have experience working in partnership with the community, working and leading a team, an understanding of the business of policing, budgeting and have demonstrated the highest level of integrity and professionalism throughout their policing career.

The Nelson Police Department has a complement of 22 Sworn Officers and 17 Civilian members. Those members work in various areas, including Uniform Patrol, General Investigation Section, Beat Unit, Restorative Justice, Victim Services, and the Communications Section. The new Inspector will be responsible for maintaining a visible presence at all levels of the Nelson Police Department while committing to improving morale, addressing performance management concerns, and developing trust and transparency through open communication. The new Inspector will oversee operational areas of the Police Department and work closely with the leadership team to support the vision of maintaining a professional, trusted, and sustainable department that prevents crime, preserves the peace, and protects lives and property to improve the quality of life in Nelson.

The successful candidate should demonstrate a progressive record of hands-on policing and operational management. The candidate should highlight relevant experience and educational background. The successful candidate should also possess the ability to communicate effectively within the organization and with all sectors of the community, to problem solve, be technically inclined and have a reputation for fairness and impartiality. Compensation: The starting salary is $160,531.60
