Dietitian

:

PRIMARY PURPOSE

:

The Dietitian will provide therapeutic nutrition counseling to students and their dependents based on best evidence-based practice knowledge in the field of nutrition and dietetics.

The Dietitian will be a resource for general nutrition education on campus participating in teaching, health promotion, advising, and mentoring activities for students and staff.


NATURE OF WORK

:

The Dietitian reports to the Director, with clinical supervision provided by the Senior Nurse Practitioner and/or the Clinical Lead of the Counselling team.

The Dietitian will exercise initiative in all work activities independently. This includes researching, analyzing and implementing evidence-based practice treatments and education outreach for nutrition issues.

The Dietitian manages an ongoing case load of patients in an effective manner and in accordance with expectations of the discipline.

Collaboration with other health team members is ongoing.


The dietitian is part of the Student Wellness Centre team, which offers urgent and non-urgent physical and mental health services to U of S students and their dependents.

The Student Wellness Centre serves a diverse student population with diverse cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

:

Counsellors' responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide therapeutic nutrition counseling to individual students, their dependents or groups of students with special dietary related concerns impacting their health and wellbeing.
  • Comply with approved medical record processes and documentation standards.
  • Comply with the terms of the Confidentiality Agreement and handle confidential information in a manner which will support patient and employee privacy.
  • Research, analyze and design appropriate diet modifications and alternatives.
  • Support individual clients through the process of change and development of new food or health behaviors related to food intake.
  • Provide general nutrition information to students and member of campus through health promotion, public education materials, and teaching on campus.
  • Evaluate the outcome of therapeutic nutrition counseling and general nutrition education activities.
  • Coordinate the interdisciplinary Eating Disorders treatment team.
  • Consult with members of the clinical services team regarding preventative, therapeutic and general nutrition.
  • Collaborate with the Health Education Coordinators to develop informational materials to aid in nutrition education.
  • Deliver educational lectures on nutrition special interest topics to academic student groups in various colleges throughout the year.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the mandate of Student Wellness Services as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

:

Bachelor's degree in the field of nutrition science (includes completion of an accredited internship program). Registration with the appropriate professional association and eligibility for professional liability insurance is a requirement of this position.

A minimum of five years of experience in clinical dietetics and engagement in clinical supervision throughout your career.

  • Extensive experience working with people struggling with disordered eating.
  • A sound knowledge of adolescent and adult development and family systems theory.
  • Ability to work independently in the field of nutrition and dietetics.
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

  • Advanced abilities to conduct clinical interventions and treatment that are informed by a strong working knowledge of nutrition and dietetics
