Information about the Department:


The Department of Chemistry at VIU is located on the beautiful west coast of British Columbia and houses a world class mass spectrometry facility with state-of-the-art orbitrap, triple quadrupole, and ion trap instruments.

Our research strengths are in environmental, clinical, and bioanalytical mass spectrometry, with a strong emphasis on novel direct mass spectrometry approaches that minimize sample preparation and pretreatment.

Located on central Vancouver Island, VIU is surrounded by world class nature perfect for many outdoor activities including but not limited to hiking, surfing, kayaking, skiing, and mountain biking.


Project Description:

Required Qualifications:

A Ph.
D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology or equivalent
Experience with mass spectrometry
Experience with electrospray ionization

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with mass spectrometry imaging
Experience with programmatic data evaluation (e.g., Matlab, Python, R, etc.)
