Department Overview:
This division coordinates regular building and grounds maintenance as well as capital construction projects, which are undertaken by staff or by tender, depending on their size and complexity.
Job Overview:
Responsibilities:
Painting
- Perform surface preparation tasks such as sanding, scraping, and priming to ensure optimal adhesion and longevity of paint coatings
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including proper storage and disposal of paint and related materials
- Instruct and oversee semiskilled volunteers on basic painting projects
- Track and document maintenance requirements for buildings, vehicles, and structures
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations while performing painting tasks
- Contribute to an exceptional visitor experience through friendly and courteous interactions if guests approach
- Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
- Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), following safe work practices, reporting workrelated incidents, injuries and hazards, participating in employer training, and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment policy
- Actively support a positive work environment through creating an atmosphere of inclusion, engagement and fulfillment in line with Heritage Park values
- Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people, collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity, sustainability, and a focus on longterm benefits for the organization and its stakeholders
- Perform other duties as required
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of High school diploma or equivalent is required; postsecondary education in Fine Arts is an asset
- Minimum 3 years' proven experience in painting and surface preparation techniques, preferably in a historical preservation or museum setting
- Versatile in all types of painting from exterior to interior and furniture finishing
- Certification in scissor lift, man lift and forklift operation is an asset (training available on the Park)
- Possession of a valid Driver's license is preferred
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact positively with colleagues, volunteers, and park visitors.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks requiring standing, bending, lifting, and carrying heavy objects
- Willingness to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions as needed
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a clientfaced setting
Special Clothing and Equipment:
- Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park if applicable; and
- Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.
Special Working Conditions:
- The position will be exposed to weather extremes and will work both indoors and outdoors; and
- This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must have the ability to lift heavy items, climb ladders, stand for long periods of time and walk throughout the Park for extended periods
Hours of Work:
- The standard hours for this position are 40 hours per week;
- The schedule will generally be five consecutive days per week (Monday to Friday); and
- Occasional holiday, evening, and weekend work may be required
