As a health and wellness organization, the First Nations Health Authority has aligned with the Provincial Public Health Order released on October 14, 2021. We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all employees at First Nations Health Authority. This policy requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If selected for employment, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination by providing a copy of your BC Vaccination Card Passport with the QR code.

Position Summary:

Provides legal support, identifies issues, and provides advice on a comprehensive range of issues and business transactions. Provides expertise in drafting and interpreting policies, contracts, and agreements. Supervises, guides, and shows leadership to designated staff and the Corporate Policy Office.

Responsibilities:

  • Drafts, reviews, negotiates, and finalizes high quality legal materials such as memorandum, legal opinions, submissions, summaries, reports, forms, correspondence, contracts, agreements, etc., focusing on critical facts, dates, provisions and key terms and conditions based on legislation, case law and precedence.
  • Identifies legal issues and provides advice on a comprehensive range of issues.
  • Formulates and recommends legal strategies and solutions; conducts legal research, identifies potential legal issues, drafts legal opinions, and advises on matters that affect the healthcare industry and business operations.
  • Assess and resolve legal issues by gathering evidence, evaluating findings, and developing strategies and arguments.
  • Provides advice and guidance to senior management employees including managers and directors, on business transactions, claim liability, advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits, legal rights and obligations, and strategies and solutions to mitigate legal risk.
  • Analyzes and interprets laws, rulings, and regulations to provide business with advice on the probable case outcomes.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • A degree in Political Science, Public, Health or Business Administration or Social Sciences.
  • A degree in law from a Canadian university
  • A minimum of 3 years to 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with First Nations leadership and communities.
  • Experience with Healthcare and or Healthcare related legal advising
  • Substantial knowledge of and demonstrated familiarity with the legislative and regulatory framework governing healthcare

Occupational Certification

  • Licensed to practice law with the Law Society of British Columbia and a current member in good standing.

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:

  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
