Summary

The Program Assistant for Summer Camp and Youth Programs creates a fun and engaging summer camp experience for youth with brain difference and other support needs. This position also includes program support for Youth Services overall programming, and attending Youth Outreach shifts and events with other members of the Youth Services Team.

The Program Assistant for Summer Camp and Youth Programs reports to the Program Lead - Youth Care Services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for youth.
  • Provides age-appropriate activities with adaptations as needed.
  • Promotes self-regulation and personal growth of youth.
  • Supports youth to achieve success using a strengths-based approach.
  • Organizes and leads activities with youth including arts and crafts, drama, cooperative games, and sports activities.
  • Assists the Youth Workers in supervising youth and maintaining their safety while on community outings.
  • Designs and implements programming for youth groups.
  • Engages in Youth Outreach shifts with Youth workers using a harm reduction approach.
  • Ensures effective services delivery consistent with agency mandate, policy, meeting all legal, contractual, financial and other compliance requirements.
  • Assists with other duties as required, from time to time, aiding with the efficient operation of the organization.
  • Participates and contributes to daily staff preparation and debrief meetings.
  • Represents SCCSS in a positive and professional manner.
  • Supports the vision, mission, and values of SCCSS.
Qualifications:
  • Between the ages of 15 to 30 years.
  • Respect for diversity (including race, culture, class, gender, sexual orientation etc.).
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds an asset.
  • Education or training re: child and youth care, intellectual disabilities and mental health conditions (an asset but not required).
  • Current First Aid Certificate (an asset but not required).
  • Successful result of criminal record check.
