Job Description:


We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team from
Monday-Friday, every other Saturday, on a rotating shift.

As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will play a crucial role in our metal recycling operations by operating and maintaining heavy machinery and equipment, and ensuring the efficient and safe processing of materials.


This position requires strong technical skills, a focus on safety, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.


Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate various heavy equipment, including loaders, excavators, forklifts, balers, shears, and material handlers, to handle and process metal materials efficiently
  • Load, unload, sort, and move metal materials using the appropriate equipment, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the recycling process
  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance. Report any major issues or malfunctions to the supervisor
  • Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to maintain a safe work environment. Conduct prestart checks and adhere to safety protocols during equipment operation.
  • Sort and separate different types of metal materials based on specifications and quality requirements, ensuring proper recycling and waste segregation.
  • Productivity and Efficiency: Work collaboratively with the operations team to meet production targets and optimize workflow. Identify opportunities for process improvements and suggest solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including equipment usage, production quantities, and any incidents or maintenance activities.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other team members to coordinate work, share information, and ensure a smooth flow of operations.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator, preferably in a metal recycling or similar industry
  • Proficiency in operating heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, forklifts, balers, shears, and material handlers
  • Valid operator certifications or licenses for specific equipment, where applicable
  • Strong knowledge of equipment safety practices and the ability to follow safety protocols at all times
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on machinery
  • Familiarity with metal recycling processes, materials, and specifications is advantageous
  • Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Attention to detail and the ability to accurately sort and handle different types of metal materials
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team environment
  • Adherence to work schedules and the ability to meet production targets
