We are currently seeking a
Plant Superintendent to lead our Production and Shipping Departments at our Goderich Evaporation Plant in Goderich, Ontario.

This is not a fly in / fly out position. You must relocate to the Goderich area.

The Goderich Evaporation Plant is proud to be one of Goderich's first employers, tracing back to 1867.

Currently, the site employs 90 people, producing an annual capacity of 140,000 tons of evaporated food grade, agricultural, pool and water-softening salt, and additionally packages 100,000 tons of rock salt, serving customers throughout the Ontario, Quebec and Northern-Central United States regions.

Goderich is named Canada's Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London, Stratford, and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.


This position is primarily responsible for directing and coordinating activities involving production and shipping including productivity measures, quality standards and safe work practices.

This position will serve as CIP Champion and be responsible for the site's advancement of the Continuous Improvement Program. This position currently operates primarily in conjunction with the day shift plant operation.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Supervise all staff in the production and shipping areas of the plant.
  • Plan and direct inventory & production schedules that obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Train new personnel on production, quality and process specific safety standards.
  • Train and manage to maintain housekeeping standards and policies in production and shipping that relate to safe quality production. (I.E.
  • NSF, FSMA, OSHA, MPCA, etc...).
  • Direct Continuous Improvement Program, develop and track OE projects, lead events, perform training and represent Duluth site in external meetings.
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical support for production and operations.
  • Provide functional support for Maintenance Supervisor, Safety Supervisor, and Plant Manager as needed.
  • Serve as site Alternate FSO and coordinate ship offloads with appropriate agencies.
Qualifications

You bring to the role:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience and/or a Bachelor degree in a related field.
  • 48 years of overall manufacturing experience with direct work experience maintaining industrial equipment, conveyor & packaging systems, pumps, piping, hydraulic systems, and other miscellaneous equipment.
  • Must have 5 years of supervisory experience including maintenance planning preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Process plant experience and experience at a food grade plant are desirable.
  • Experience leading a significant culture change from reactive to a proactive / preventative culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills related to dealing with in a multishift unionized environment
  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Access) is a requirement
  • Enthusiastic team player who is easily adaptable and able to work with individuals at a variety of levels within the organization
  • Excellent time management skills; the individual must be wellorganized and possess the ability to prioritize tasks and remain calm under stressful situations
