Description


The Call Diversion Unit - Crisis Response Worker in collaboration with the York Regional Police Department, work to divert non-emergent mental health and addiction related 911 calls.

In collaboration with York Regional Police, the Crisis Response Worker will review calls for service that involve mental health and/or addiction concerns and other psychosocial issues.

The purpose of the unit is to decrease the non-emergency crisis calls for service for front line officers and reduce the use of these personnel for non-emergency responses.


_Relief Workers are required to use their own laptop and cell phone_

Position Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Social Work or related discipline (i.e. Health Sciences)
  • Minimum three years related experience
  • Knowledge and practice of shortterm urgent response, psychosocial rehabilitation approach and advanced clinical, crisis and assessment skills are assets
  • Experience working with individuals having a serious mental illness is essential
  • Crisis skills for adults and children experiencing a mental health crisis are desirable
  • Completion of CPI, CPR and ASIST training as per agency guidelines
  • Experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system is an asset
  • A second language is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the local service system is essential
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide a police clearance that meets agency standards
  • A valid G Drivers License, access to a reliable vehicle and business use insurance coverage, OR access to reliable transportation.

One Relief Contract Position

Starting Hourly Rate:
$34.26 per hour.


Office Expectations:
Weekday and Weekend Shifts, Minimum 1 shift per month. Located at York Regional Police Headquarters.
