(Nakina Lumber), a subsidiary of the Buchanan group of companies, is a fully functioning lumber mill, manufacturing finished lumber products from trees harvested from the Ogoki Forest.

Position Overview:


Reporting to the Yard Supervisor, the Kiln Attendant is responsible for the operation, maintenance and quality control as it relates to stacking and drying of lumber within the kiln and is further responsible for maintaining production levels.


Responsibilities:

  • To reliably attend work for scheduled shifts.
  • To work safely, in compliance with all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
  • To drive accountability for safely achieving shift targets and ensure the safe and efficient operation of the kiln.
  • To follow production protocol as established by the Yard Supervisor.
  • To inform the Yard Supervisor of all production or processing problems, maintenance concerns or policy and procedure issues in a timely manner.
  • To operate and monitor kiln charges as per schedule.
  • To complete kiln tallies and control inventory of green and dry lumber.
  • To maintain preventative maintenance schedule and work with the maintenance team to support continuous improvement in operations.
  • To maintain quality control programs.
  • To coordinate and assist Operators in the push/pull of kiln loads (spotter).
  • To keep tracks clear of snow and debris.
  • To maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • To address concerns directly with the appropriate supervisor, or lead hand in the absence of the supervisor, in a timely manner, and to support problem solving around the concern(s) brought forward.
  • To conduct oneself in a manner that contributes to a culturally safe, inclusive and respectful workplace.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from timetotime.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a lumber mill or manufacturing environment considered an asset.
  • Heavy Equipment training/experience considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office and comfortable navigating various database systems.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks, with mínimal supervision.
  • Receptive and responsive to receiving direction and supervision.
  • Access to a personal vehicle and valid driver's license required.
  • An ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk, climb stairs and crouch while completing manual tasks.
  • An ability to commit to reliable and consistent attendance.
  • A strong work ethic.
