Brief Overview:


The Métis Nation - Saskatchewan (MN-S) is the government that represents Métis citizens in Saskatchewan, and MN-S Ministry of Health is responsible for improving the health and well-being of Métis citizens in Saskatchewan.

The Ministry of Health does this through program development and operation, research and data partnerships, and the development of a Métis Health and Well-being Strategy.

MN-S Ministry of Health has acquired funds to conduct research and develop a provincial plan to eliminate the need to evacuate for birthing in Saskatchewan through innovative community-driven trauma-informed and evidence-based solutions including midwifery, prenatal, birthing, and postnatal intensive supports, housing/poverty/food insecurity and other social determinants of health, mental health/wellbeing and substance use supports.


Under the supervision of the Director of Health, the Project Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating the process of planning and development of a Midwifery Métis-specific Strategy and act as a liaison between MN-S, Métis Communities, and project partners to support the development of sustainable, appropriate, culturally relevant, and safe Métis Birthing Center(s) in Saskatchewan.

Including, but not limited to accessible, legal Métis-focused midwifery, improved options/choices from prenatal to postpartum in their home communities (or as close to home as possible) eliminating the need to travel, away from family to urban centers unless absolutely medically necessary.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management_
  • Manage and implement project delivery plan and updates project workplan and quarterly budget forecast.
  • Maintains awareness and understanding of community engagement, social determinants of health, public health trends, and patientoriented research approaches.
  • Coordinates and actively participates in project planning and evaluation in accordance with the funding agreement.
  • Supports the research on Métisspecific midwifery needs and services available in the province.
  • Partnership and Committee Support_
  • Works in partnership with the external Project support contractor.
  • Supports building an Advisory Circle to ensure the voices who regularly inform and oversee the outcomes/outputs of the project are included.
  • Plans and develops Memorandum of Understanding Agreements, Research Agreements and Data Sharing Agreements with Partners.
  • Creates and coordinates working groups and expert communities of practice to develop Métisspecific Midwifery strategies.
  • Develops Terms of Reference for the Advisory Circle and working groups as required.
  • Community Engagement_
  • Develops and implements Métis community engagement plans and processes.
  • Identifies project stakeholders and develops a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan.
  • Designs and coordinates project deliverables as outlined in the funding proposal and in partnership with community partners.
  • Compiles and disseminates findings from the community engagement(s) and other deliverables as required.
  • Recognises and pursues opportunities to engage key stakeholders and leaders in Métis communities to further the conversation and achieve project deliverables.
  • Communications_
  • Effectively interprets project information for internal and external communication.
  • Responds to stakeholders and partners inquiries relating to project information and key messaging.
  • Reports the results of community engagement meetings to the partners.
  • Drafts briefings, articles, and bulletins for communication and education purposes.
  • Creates and coordinates an internal communication strategy for all staff and contractors connected to the project team.
  • Drafts and coordinates all reporting to MN-S leadership and to the funder.
  • Relationship Building_
  • Works with parents, pregnant women/families from across the province and representatives of diverse demographics to ensure the voices of lived and living experience regarding birthing are captured.
  • Establish relationships with Métis Elders and knowledge keepers who have midwifery and doula experience (past and present) to ensure outcomes/recommendations are culturally relevant.
  • Build relationships with government and other health jurisdiction professionals.
  • Financial_
  • Monitors the project budget, reports, and other related information.
  • Ensure budget expenditures remain within approved budget allocations.
  • Reports to the Director of Health on project outcomes for budget reporting.
  • Creates reports for the funder.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education or relevant experience in Indigenous/Aboriginal studies, community health, public health, social sciences or relevant field.
  • Minimum threefive years experience working in the healthcare sector
  • Direct experience with midwifery would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous, including Métis, clients.
