WSP is seeking an Environmental Technician to add to our growing team in Port Hope, Ontario. This opportunity is to join the WSP team responsible for the execution and construction of the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI). The PHAI represents the federal government's response to the community-requested solution for the cleanup and local, long-term, safe management of historic low-level radioactive waste in the municipalities of Port Hope and Clarington.

Please note we will consider candidates based in various locations throughout Canada, but this opportunity is based at the project site in Port Hope, Ontario.

What you can expect to do here:
  • You will assist with the implementation of various environmental field programs, playing a key role in our commitment to environmental sustainability.
  • You will conduct site work, including inspecting, monitoring, and conducting environmental field activities such as water management, erosion and sediment control, dust management, and noise monitoring.
  • You will collect environmental samples (soil, water) and respond to environmental emergencies (spills), ensuring the safety and integrity of our work sites.
  • You will engage in technical writing, creating daily dust management plans, daily dust logs, daily environmental inspection logs, and maintaining a key environmental issues tracking log. Your contributions will be crucial in documenting and communicating our environmental efforts.
  • You will record key environmental field data, contributing to our understanding and management of environmental impacts.
  • You will occasionally perform physical work, such as assisting with ESC installation, replacing dust station batteries, moving environmental monitoring equipment, and responding to spills. This will keep you active and engaged in our environmental initiatives.
  • You will undertake other duties as assigned by the Environmental Lead/Environmental Manager, providing you with diverse experiences and opportunities for growth in the environmental field.
What you'll bring to WSP:
  • Bachelors degree or College diploma in environmental science or related fields preferred.
  • More than 3 years' experience working as an Environmental Technician or similar role
  • Experience in the nuclear or construction/remediation-based sector considered an asset.
  • Expertise in MS Word, Excel and all programs under MS Office Suite.
  • Familiar with ISO 9001.
  • Valid G drivers licence.
  • Must be eligible for CNL Reliability Stauts security clearance ( individual must have 3 full years of concurrent verifiable history in Canada, USA, UK, New Zealand and/or Australia ).
