PRIMARY FOCUS:


Prepare meals for residents as outlined on the menu, utilizing standard recipes, and following specific dietary guidelines provided by the Director of Care.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the food is prepared in proper manner and presented to the residents in a palatable and appetizing appearance.


JOB CONTEXT:

The Cook will:

  • Provide daily leadership in the preparation of food.
  • Prepare meals for breakfast, lunch and supper for the residents following authorized menu and specific dietary guideless of some residents
  • Track minimum stock of groceries and kitchen supplies as well as general food inventory.
  • Work with resident care staff to ensure appropriate nutrition for each resident as unique dietary needs are identified and communicated.
  • Consistently and always practice safe food handling.
  • Maintain a clean kitchen following safety guidelines.
  • Assign duties and supervises kitchen helper staff.
  • Assist in control of food costs and wastage.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership team and the administration department to purchase groceries, and necessary supplies.
  • Make recommendations to the Administrator for any needed changes or adjustment required for more efficient operations of the kitchen.
  • Attend education and training to better understand the dietary needs of older adults.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Be aware of and committed to promoting the residents' rights and responsibilities.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement.
  • Adhere to all infection control principles and policies.
  • Promptly report all concerns, hazards, injuries to self and others to the Administrator or covering manager.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:

The cook reports directly to the Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Related post
- secondary education

  • Experience in quantity food preparation and knowledge of preparation of therapeutic diets
  • Empathy for and understanding of the elderly eating habits and limitations/restrictions.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Food Safety Course
  • WHIMIS Certification

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Able to concentrate in an environment that includes interruptions and competing demands.
  • Lifting along, lifting with assistance, pushing and pulling including stretching and reaching on a regular frequency throughout each shift is an essential job function.
  • Standing for long periods of time as an essential job function.
  • Walking with the possibility of upstairs walking is an essential job function.
  • Carrying and transporting objects of various sizes is an essential job function.

Job Type:
Part-time

Salary:
$15.00-$18.00 per hour

Experience:
