NSB Omega is searching for an Automation Engineer for our MAJOR Oil & Gas Client in Calgary, AB.
Assignment Description
As an Automation Engineer specializing in data connectivity, networking, and industrial control system (ICS) integration, you will play a crucial role in scoping, designing, implementing, and optimizing automation solutions for complex industrial environments. Leveraging your expertise in data communication, network infrastructure, and ICS integration, you will help execute projects that leverage OT data to enable predictive analytics solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Automation System Design and Implementation:
- Scope out automation solutions tailored to industrial environments, focusing on data connectivity, networking, and ICS integration.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, specifications, and architecture for automation systems.
- Identify scalable and robust automation solutions that facilitate efficient data exchange and communication between control systems, sensors, actuators, and other devices.
2. Data Connectivity and Networking Solutions:
- Support the scoping and implementation of solutions for seamless data transfer, integration, and synchronization across industrial networks.
- Support the Implement and configuration of network infrastructure components, including switches, routers, firewalls, and gateways, to ensure reliable and secure data communication.
- Knowledgeable of protocols and technologies for industrial data connectivity, such as Modbus, OPC-UA, Ethernet/IP
3. Project Coordination
- Support Project execution activities – help manage schedules, budgets and stakeholder communication
- Support collection of relevant engineering documentation; review for accuracy and completeness; interpret control narratives and lead discussions on data availability and quality; create reports and technical memos
- Manage technical punch-list items and follow-up with engineering disciplines to identify remediation actions; lead discussions to problem solve
4. Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and IT, to ensure alignment and integration of automation solutions with broader organizational objectives.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members on data connectivity, networking, and ICS integration aspects of automation projects.
- Participate in design reviews, and testing activities to ensure quality and reliability of automation systems.
5. Documentation and Training:
- Document system architectures, configurations, and integration procedures to facilitate knowledge transfer and ensure repeatability.
- Provide training and mentorship to other team members on data connectivity, networking, and ICS integration principles and practices.
- Stay informed about industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies related to automation, data communication, and industrial control systems.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical or a related field.
- Experience as an Automation Engineer with a focus on data connectivity, networking, and industrial control system integration in industrial environments.
- In-depth knowledge of industrial communication protocols, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity principles.
- Knowledge of industrial transmitters, wireless mesh networks and instrument management systems would be an asset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex automation and networking issues in real-time.
- Experience in troubleshooting, configuring and deploying control system solutions (ex. DeltaV, Honeywell, Foxboro etc)
- Knowledge of process historians (ex. Pi, PHD, dataPARC) would be an asset along with experience in data retrieval and quality checking
- Project Management experience would be an asset
