Switchperson/trackmobile Operator

Working in a fast-paced, customer oriented environment, the Switching crew must work well in teams to maximize efficiency and safety, while demonstrating a strong initiative and organizational skills.

• Ensures safe operation of the locomotive/trackmobile and train movements; participates in job and safety briefings to receive communication regarding the daily operation
• Provides protection of train, track, and equipment
• Performs equipment inspections and necessary repairs; completes daily inspection and testing of the trackmobile brakes and safety devices
• Complies with all applicable operating rules, switching procedures and regulations imposed by government, the customer, and/or Cando; practices and promotes safe work habits
• Keeps the interior of equipment and customer site safe, clean, and tidy
• Performs yard checks and produces yard inventory sheets
• Promptly reports all safety, equipment, and track problems to the Shift Supervisor and/or Manager; undertakes and tasks assigned by the Shift Supervisor
• Exerts "best effort" to protect human life, human safety and company property
• Actively participates with the team and provides excellent customer service while promoting a superior company image
• Participates in training or company initiatives as required

• Excellent teamwork skills; strong customer service skills
• Ability to read and write general documentation including safety briefings switching lists; read and comprehend policy and procedure manuals
• Physically fit including the ability to pull self up and down from a railcar on a continuous basis, able to lift and twist air hoses, able to secure rail car brakes, derails, and switches
• Ability to work flexible hours at a 24/7 operational site; work outside in all weather conditions
• Ability to obtain and maintain all required certifications and safety critical medical clearance including clear drug and alcohol testing

• Valid CROR or ability to obtain it
• Experience as an operator or switchperson an asset; will train the right person
