We are seeking a Technical Officer to work in the Station Design Department in Winnipeg, MB. Under the general direction of the
Principal Substation Grounding Engineer or delegate, the individual will lead and direct staff, and manage consultants in the
development of grounding system software models & designs for transmission & distribution stations, conduct complex studies,
prepare standards and procedures and act as the technical expert for staff conducting field measurements.

_ Responsibilities:
_

  • In conjunction with Professional Engineering staff, conduct complex computer model studies and prepare a standalone
engineering report, including relevant documentation, ground grid recommendations and designs.

  • Conduct reviews of grounding design drawings and studies prepared by staff, other departments or consultants, with respect
to the adherence of standards or accepted study methodologies.

  • Provide technical expertise to other design groups in the preparation of grounding system software models and designs,
standards and procedures, and project deliverables including drawings, bill of materials, scopes and estimates.

  • Liaise, witness and act as the technical expert for field staff conducting measurements at station sites and ensure established
procedures are followed so that accurate and appropriate data is obtained for subsequent modeling, studies and designs.

  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of the field measurement program in cooperation with other groups to ensure that
project completion is in accordance with schedules and within approved budget; and that testing is conducted within time,
travel & resource constraints.

_ Qualifications:
_

  • A twoyear diploma in Electrical Technology from a college or institute of recognized standing and a minimum of five years
directly related experience in the design, construction, or maintenance of transmission & distribution stations which includes
grounding systems.
OR

  • Certification at the Technologist level by the Certified Technicians and Technologists Association of Manitoba plus a minimum
of five years directly related experience in the design, construction, or maintenance of transmission & distribution stations
which includes grounding systems.

  • Familiarity with the use of the CDEGS software program used to model grounding systems would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated capability to exercise sound and appropriate technical judgment to resolve problems in routine and nonroutine
matters as they relate to the grounding system design of new transmission & distribution stations or to the modification of
existing stations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the use of various corporate software packages including SAP Material Management & Project
System Management modules and Microsoft Office.

  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to provide technical direction, guidance, coaching and training to design unit and field
staff, with previous supervisor experience preferred.
