Course description:

An introduction to the molecular biology of the cell with an emphasis on similarities and differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.


Topics include the structure and function of:
macromolecules, membranes, ribosomes, nuclei, intracellular organelles, etc

Other topics include:

the central dogma of molecular biology (replication, transcription and translation), protein targeting, organization of the genome, gene regulation and regulation of the cell cycle.

Tutorials will emphasize and consolidate concepts from lecture and text through individual and group assignments.

Salary (In accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement):

Effective September 1, 2023:
Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $9,930.79

Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,326.62

Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $10,570.02

All pay rates are inclusive of vacation pay.

Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.


Description of duties:

Normal duties associated with teaching a university course, including preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams, calculation and submission of grades, contact with students by regular office hours.

Completion of all grades (may include make-up exams).

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
