Primary Purpose:

The Audio & Visual Installation Technician will join a team of two experienced A/V installers who work closely with ICT IT Support Services, Technical Support Services, Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise Solutions, Client Experience & Training the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning to provide top-notch audio and visual capabilities that support USask's teaching, learning and collaboration needs.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Senior AV Specialist within IT Support Services (ICT), this individual will provide installation, programming, maintenance, and support for audio and visual systems in theatres, classrooms, meeting rooms, boardrooms, and huddle spaces. The position will include some evening and occasional weekend shifts.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  • Programming and configuration setup a variety of different AV manufacturer's equipment: Crestron, AMX, Extron, Biamp, Shure, etc.
  • Install AV solutions—including pulling cables, installing projector mounts, monitor mounts, web conferencing equipment, flatscreen displays\video walls, wiring\termination of lowvoltage cabling (including soldering), wireless microphones, audio DSP, sound systems, assembling AV racks, and basic use of hand tools.
  • Review AV project documentation and architectural blueprints.
  • Test, calibrate, and commission AV systems.
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients, general contractors, and external AV integrators.
  • Load and unload AV equipment at shop and worksite.
  • Document information in IT Support's knowledge base as required.
  • Work collaboratively with all areas of ICT including Academic and Collaboration Technology, Business Solutions, and Support Services to provide an exceptional client experience.
  • Provide training to tier 1 IT support agents as required.

Education:

Completion of Grade 12, a 2-year diploma in Electronic Systems Engineering Technology, or a degree/diploma in recording engineering or media broadcasting.

AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist designation would be considered an asset. Training in AMX Netlinx and Crestron SIMPL programming language would be considered an asset.

Licenses:
Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license with a good driving record.

Skills:

Ability to provide technical support on a wide range of AV presentation/distribution equipment, automated equipment control systems including basic design and in-depth maintenance experience; ability to work in a high volume service area; ability to coordinate multiple tasks and work with minimum supervision in a time-sensitive project based environment; effective interpersonal and public relations skills; ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users; physical ability to lift 50 lbs and handle heavy delicate equipment.
