Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Hospice Care Ottawa Full time

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Are you an exceptional leader looking for a meaningful way to make a difference in our community?

Hospice Care Ottawa (HCO) is a unique community-based charitable organization that stands out for its compassionate palliative and end-of-life programs and services. Formed by two founding organizations – The Hospice at May Court and Friends of Hospice Ottawa, and now spanning across three locations in Ottawa, HCO ensures that every individual, regardless of their background, receives the highest level of dignity, comfort, and support. Hospice palliative care is a key element in the health system in Ontario. Serving well over 1000 people and their families each year, HCO is committed to providing all services free of charge, a testament to our dedication to the Ottawa community. We promote quality in life, compassion in death, and support in bereavement to people in need. HCO provides residence hospice care, bereavement care, and community hospice care programs such as in-home visits, day hospice, and caregiver support. We have 100 staff and over 500 dedicated volunteers, and our services meet the highest care standards in a setting that reflects as closely as possible a comfortable home environment. With the planned retirement of our incumbent Executive Director, we are looking for our next champion for hospice care.

The Executive Director (ED) plays a pivotal role in the successful leadership and management of HCO's overall administration, programs and services. Guided by the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors, the ED is onsite, and oversees the daily operation of the organization, ensuring that the programs and services meet the unique and special needs of the community, clients, and key stakeholders. By creating a culture and environment that fosters the values and philosophy of Hospice Care Ottawa, the ED establishes and leads an organizational structure and culture that ensures compassion, quality and service in everything we do. As a leader, the ED cultivates an appreciation of our volunteers and staff and engages with local healthcare providers and business partners. The ED also develops meaningful relationships with funders and donors that establish credibility and continuity for our organization as a leader in our community.

Do you have what it takes to be our next Executive Director?

  • Eight to ten years' experience in a senior management/leadership role within the non-profit human services or healthcare sector
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders, such as funders at the local and provincial levels, community members and healthcare leaders
  • Proven entrepreneurial, organizational, networking and program development skills to be applied in fundraising and promoting the organization
  • Governance experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Proven leadership and consensus-building skills
  • Sound judgement, problem-solving and decision-making ability in difficult situations
  • Values-driven style, with a strong sense of servant leadership is essential
  • Strong communication skills in English and French are necessary
