The Role

Reporting to the Supervisor of Child Care, the Child Care Assistant is responsible for the overall learning and care of the children in the program.

Working as part of a team, the Child Care Assistant will develop and implement programs, maintain safe environments, work collaboratively with families, maintain professional relationships, and adhere to the Child Care and Early Years Act.

Responsibilities:_

  • Ensures all children and families are provided with a highquality childcare experience, and provides ongoing support to families as needed
  • Recognizes and celebrates the uniqueness of all children, builds rapport, and manages group behaviour while ensuring a physically and psychologically safe environment
  • Plans and implements a playbased program that is responsive to the observed interests and developmental needs of the children, is familiar with the Provincial framework "How Does Learning Happen?"
  • Adheres to all requirements outlined in the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), and all SPC Policies and Procedures

  • Valid up to date Standard First Aid with CPR C (prior to the start of the position)
  • Ability to effectively respond to the individual/unique needs of children
  • Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services

  • Permanent employees start with 6% (3 weeks) vacation accumulation, 3 floater days and accumulate 10 sick days per year (but are not paid out)
  • Benefits are offered to permanent part time (17.5 hours per week) and fulltime employees, and the premiums are employer paid
