As the Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) provides onsite emergency medical services within an industrial environment, tending to both urgent and non-urgent medical needs
:ONYX Currently has immediate openings for PCP's with open to good availability Projects are Alberta Wide and range from Pipelines, Rig, and Fire Medic support Projects are long duration projects.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Medical assistance at accidents, emergencies, and other related incidents, usually in an ambulance or MTC
  • Assesses the condition of patients who are injured or taken ill suddenly.
  • Respond to emergency calls 24/
  • Provides immediate course of treatment enroute to hospital or on scene.
  • Applies splints to limbs, dressing wounds, administering pain relief, oxygen, drips, and fluids.
  • Uses technical equipment (i.e., AED) to resuscitate and stabilize patients.
  • May administer IV and Entonox
  • May administer Oxygen
  • May administer Oral Glucose, D50, and Epi
  • May administer Nitro, Atrovent & Ventolin, Combivent
  • Make available Over the Counter drugs (as required)
  • Make available ASA81mg (as required)
  • Manage Airway Devices (IGEL, OPA, NPA, etc.)
  • Monitors patient's condition.
  • Assesses whether and how to move patients and, where appropriate, the best location to transport them to.
  • Liaises with members of other emergency services, such as the police, fire brigade and other ambulance services to ensure the appropriate level of response is provided.
  • Deals with members of the public/worksite present at the scene.
  • Drives an MTC or other rapid response vehicle.
  • Cleans, decontaminates, and checks vehicles and equipment to maintain a state of operational readiness.
  • Maintains medical documentation and reports on patient's conditions.
  • Attend daily safety meetings
  • Obtain and maintain current all required certifications/certificates

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ACOP registered
  • WHMIS / TDG (as required) / Onyx New Hire Training
  • H2S Alive and PST (Petroleum Safety Training)
  • CPR Level HCP
  • Class 5 (or equivalent) Driver's License (Class 4 to operate Ambulance)
  • Current Driver Abstract (within 30 days of hire)
  • CSO

SKILLS:

  • Excellent, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Functional knowledge and abilities with computer operations, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Effectively organize and prioritize situations and activities ranging from urgent patient care issues to routine
  • Must be reliable, dependable, and capable of working in a fast paced, team environment
  • Able to travel via motor vehicle and air transport

Working Conditions

  • Increased exposure to medical occupational hazards (such as needle stick and pathogens)
  • Variable schedule. Commonly 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off; 12 hours per day. Schedule may change frequently and without notice at any time.
  • Typically assigned scheduled rotations; 12 hours per day
  • Must be able to workday and night shifts
  • Work can be psychologically and emotionally stressful during crisis events.
  • On call 24hrs/day for emergency response or clinic coverage.
  • May require lifting > 50 lbs. for short duration.
  • The Primary Care Paramedic may be required to do additional standby and oncall duties depending on medical needs at the time.
  • The PCP is required to travel Leadership
  • Provides education and development to junior staff Supervision
  • Works under limited supervision
    Reports to Operations Manager

Rotation is normally two weeks on and two weeks off. Which means you will be required to be out onsite for two weeks in a row away from home. Shifts are 12 hour a day. If you are working somewhere where you must make/supply your own food, Onyx does pay you sub. Employees come to our main shop located in Leduc, AB and pick up an Onyx truck. Employees then drive our trucks with gas cards to the site and back to Leduc. Onyx does pay travel time when driving to and home from sites.**
