JOB PURPOSE:


The Facilities Technician, under the direction of the Facilities Director will provide support to all school activities and conduct building maintenance by performing various tasks within the facilities department.

The Facilities Technician is required to work with the Facilities team to perform preventative and regular maintenance tasks. The Facilities Technician ensures the safe operations of equipment and maintains interior and exterior areas of the school building.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform a wide range of general maintenance duties to buildings, grounds and equipment
  • Assist with the operation of building systems including but not limited to HVAC, security and fire alarm systems
  • Acts as a parking lot attendant during student dropoff and pickup times and during School events
  • Responds to assigned work orders and preventative maintenance tasks using computerized maintenance management system and provides status updates in a timely manner
  • Completes setups and teardowns for School meetings and events
  • Works as part of the Facilities Team to respond to emergencies (i.e. floods, fire alarms, power failures, etc.)
  • Responsible for maintaining paint inventory and documentation
  • First point of contact for evening rentals, providing assistance as needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • A valid driver's license is required for occasional driving duties
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills are required
  • Solid knowledge of painting and drywall repair work
  • Must work within the school's health and safety framework as well as provincial OHS law
  • Ability to use computer software and computer technology at an entry level
  • Ability to deal with students, parents and teachers cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion in a service oriented environment
  • Ability to safely operate tools and equipment
  • Effective teamplayer who also has the ability to work independently
  • Required to occasionally complete job related training as required

WORKING REQUIREMENTS:

  • The York School Campus, Toronto
  • Early mornings, evenings and weekends may be required
  • Requirement to work independently on projects and as part of a team
  • Regular lifting (approximately 10kg) and use of ladders and elevated platforms
  • Occasional work with chemicals
