Position Summary:


Under the direction of the Manager, Library User Services and the User Service Librarian, the incumbent will provide support for the Library and Learning Centre.

This includes participating in outreach and engagement programs, assisting learners in research and scholarship activities, performing Unified Library System (ULS) workflows and supporting digital literacies.

Duties include facilitating workshops and student-centered programming and projects, providing face-to-face and virtual services, maintaining self-check station, print collection and Leganto.

The incumbent supports the digital literacy program by demonstrating and assisting students with software, audio-visual and other materials used in the creation of digital projects.


Responsibilities:

Library and Learning Centre Support and Student Engagement

  • Collaborate with Library and Learning Centre staff in the identification of awareness gaps, engagement opportunities and outreach strategies.
  • Deliver, implement and participate in a variety of outreach programs.
  • Assess the quality, relevance and success of outreach initiatives for ongoing improvement.
  • Collaborate with other college departments in the creation and coordination of engagement activities and projects.
  • Work in advisory capacity to plan future projects.
  • Provide backup coverage for Library and Learning Centre to ensure service to students, faculty and staff is always available when needed.

Research and Citation Support

  • Deliver prompt, efficient and friendly customer service.
  • Provide demonstrations and assistance to learners on the use of the library's various resources, equipment, systems and platforms.
  • Answer a wide range of research questions with appropriate research suggestions and strategies, and provide informed referrals as required.
  • Deliver citation/plagiarism presentations, demonstrations, and consultations.
  • Record research activities and data for quality assurance and strategic analyses.

Digital Literacy Support

  • Assist with scheduling and logistics of workshops and events by booking equipment, test hardware and software.
  • Participate in learning object development for digital literacy skills.
  • Collect and input statistics for workshops.
  • Staff the Sandbox dropin labs.
  • Meet with students by appointment to assist with digital projects.

Project Work

  • Participation in projects, events and initiatives that arise during the year.
  • Participation on committees, working groups and support college events.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Minimum completion of two (2) year Diploma or equivalent in Information and Library Science.

Experience

Skills

  • Demonstrated initiative, time management and organizational skills in achieving exceptional levels of completeness, accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Effective communication skills both written and presentation.
  • Strong people skills in an academically and culturally diverse public service environment that include public speaking, interpersonal communication, presentation and facilitation, and conflict resolution.
  • Sound judgement with the ability to analyze and solve problems and act with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively virtually and facetoface within a team, independently, under direction and to desired results.
  • The ability and initiative to continually learn new software, programs, and computer technologies.

A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered as equivalent to the above requirements in the event that there are no internal applicants that meet the qualifications as posted.
