The University Advancement division plays a leading role in strengthening awareness of and support for the University's mission and goals by leading alumni relations and fundraising efforts across campus and beyond.

All departments within the Division build enduring alumni and public trust through understanding and support for Western University in a coordinated campus-wide effort that results in the engagement and funding needed to make an impact.

There are 3 departments within the Division - Departments of Development, Alumni Relations and Advancement Operations.


The Advancement Operations department is a partner in the areas of constituent database and technology services, prospect management, research and pipeline, data analytics and storytelling, gift and pledge management, records and document management, and financial reconciliation and reporting.

In addition, we provide support to the annual planning process as well as budget management, human resources and facilities support for University Advancement.


An integral part of Advancement Operations, the Prospect Management team, leads the identification and population of prospect pools for assignment at all giving levels, to support a strong pipeline in meeting fundraising goals.

The team conducts regular analysis of prospect portfolios assigned to the development team and ensures business, system and reporting processes are in place to evaluate pipeline progress.

The team provides background research on the University's relationship with prospects and ensures biographical data is accurate, complete and consistent within prospect pools for greater impact.

Through the work of the prospect pipeline team, all departments across University Advancement understand the shared responsibility of the prospect management system and effectively use the system to monitor and evaluate program strategy.


Responsibilities:

The Manager, Prospect Research is an integral part of the fundraising efforts of the University.

The role will manage all aspects of the prospect research processes to provide accurate and timely information and strategy in support of the University's fundraising goals.

The Manager will provide oversight to the prospect research functions within the University Advancement portfolio, and provide leadership to a team to ensure that fundraising and alumni relations staff across campus receive the centralized assistance and resources to support their activities.

The role is a member of the management team of Advancement Operations, and will provide recommendations, support and input to facilitate increased consistency and best practice, and to ensure that client-focused and responsive services are delivered to the University advancement community.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree of Library & Information Services, Data Analytics, or related field
  • Masters of Library & Information Services, Data Analytics or related field preferred

Experience:

  • 5 years demonstrated experience in prospect research and in using analytics to fuel growth
  • Experience supervising staff and projects
  • Experience developing reports for senior leaders

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people
  • Indepth knowledge of project research tools and resources
  • Indepth knowledge of best practices related to data analytics in a development context
  • Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations that are clearly linked to the organization's strategy and goals
  • Ability to communicate with technical staff, nontechnical staff and demonstrate expertise related to data analysis
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills to assess complex higher education issues of concern to stakeholders, including the media, the public, and prospective donors
  • Ability to draw on diversity of skills, backgrounds and knowledge of people to achieve more effective results
