Design Technician

Brampton, Ontario, Canada ALMAG Full time

Directly responsible to the Manager, Planning and Supply Chain. Provide Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing and Project Management support. This position will require candidate to perform in all aspects of business including design engineering, SoildWorks, Auto Cad, SolidEdge, ST5 3D modelling, assemblies, drawing creation, tooling quotes and reverse engineering.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Design Technician are detailed below, but not limited to the following:

Creation of high quality extrusion die drawings Creation of high quality fabrication drawings Maintenance of drawing specifications and standards Working with sales and production staff to propose extrusions designs and tolerances that match our abilities and the needs of our Customer Involvement in new product introduction advising on design feasibility and improvements Communication and collaboration with external die makers to design with best practices Reviewing submitted die designs for extrudability Maintenance of all drawing records, CAD files, and drawing releases Distribution of approved drawings, sending and receiving drawings Work directly with Customer Service and Sales Representatives to provide outstanding Customer Service Set up engineering drawings for QA scans ( DII Ascona scanner applications, 2D optical scanner) Set up dies and part numbers in ERP ( EPICS) All other task supporting complimentary departments, as required Comply with all quality related policies, procedures, and system requirements

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

Post Secondary Diploma or degree in drafting, mechanical design, mechanical engineering or equivalent. Minimum 1-3 year relevant experience with mechanical design/drafting. Minimum 3 year relevant experience with Solid Works.

Technical Skills/Competence

Thorough knowledge of drafting principles Proficient in AutoCAD and Solid Works Capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts Capable of working as part of a team Self-starter and able to take direction High energy level Strong work ethic Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Effective time management skills Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed Preferred: Experience working with extrusion die design Preferred: Experience working with Fabrication part design
