ART PROGRAM SUPPORT WORKER

FULL-TIME POSITION

Position Summary
Camphill Communities Ontario, a not-for-profit organization that provides support to people with cognitive and developmental disabilities, is seeking a
Full-time Day Program Support Worker (DPSW), working between our Studios in Barrie and Angus, to provide support, teach and coach Individuals to develop arts-based skills.
  • This is a regular biweekly
    70 to 80 hours scheduled to the needs of the Individuals.

    Please note that this means the hours may be a combination of
    days, evenings and occasional weekends and this will be directed based on the day program needs.

    This position comes with group benefits after a successful probationary period.
Reporting to the Community Participation and Innovation (CPI) Manager, the DPSW will work closely with the Day


Program and Residential teams to observe, plan and implement activities that facilitate learning and development in daily living, social and life skills of the Individuals through the provision and coordination of CCO day program services which include but are not limited to the Art Studio, Café, woodshop, land, garden, herbery and pottery.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the CPI Manager's coordination and in collaboration with the day program and residential teams, plans and carries out activities to encourage growth and development, for Individuals to fulfil their potential for independence.
  • Encourages Individuals to achieve the highest level of independence in personal care and relationships.
  • Participates in Individuals' Person Centred Planning and assists in the implementation of their plans by respectfully supporting them.
  • Be able to utilize a personal outcome philosophybased approach to support Individuals in making informed choices that lead to the successful attainment of their goals and aspirations.
  • Develop and facilitate artistic programs and activities that will support the independence and development of individuals supported by CCO.
  • Teach and support Individuals to gain skills in drawing, painting, sculpting, pottery and other forms of artistic expression.
  • Responsible for maintaining safety standards related to art and pottery studio equipment.
  • Provide support, guidance, and directive to Individuals in the workshops to ensure their safety and learning.
  • Engages in ongoing efforts to develop new markets for arts, workshops, herbery, pottery, woodshop and garden products where applicable.
  • Ensures that the CCO Health and Safety Policies and Procedures are effectively implemented in the work areas.
  • Completes documentation for any incidences or serious occurrences that occur at the workshop as per CCO and MCSS Policies and Procedures.
  • Participates in team meetings, relevant community meetings and CCO business meetings as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to two years' collegelevel training with specialized coursework in art, craftsmanship, wood technology, agriculture or equivalent training or apprenticeship.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a Day Program setting working with developmentally disabled individuals.
  • Valid G Driver's license and own vehicle.
  • Effective communication skills, good interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, positive attitude, reliable, flexible and selfmotivated
