Duties:
Under the supervision of Superintendent of Parks or Designate.
- Construct and maintain buildings, facilities and properties within Parks and Leisure Services.
- Act as a general maintenanceperson in performing a variety of duties connected with building maintenance, repair, grounds and construction.
- Oversee small work crews in the performance of routine duties.
- Complete basic plumbing.
- Complete lock or door hardware repairs.
- Conduct safety inspections including building, fire, playground and other outdoor recreational amenities, and ensure that corrective measures are implemented.
- Perform the function of Parks Utility person as required.
- Assist with the delivery and set-up of special events and functions.
- Repair and maintain building, bridges, partitions, fencing, stairways, walls, counters, fixtures, rink boards, benches, bleachers, playground structures and form/construct concrete structures.
- Report conditions of Parks and Facilities to Superintendent when damage or vandalism is observed.
- Assist in the construction of new facilities or modification/repairs to existing structures.
- Operate power and hand tools.
- Participate in the maintenance on-call rotation for Parks Services.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
- Three (3) years experience in parks building and facilities maintenance, including a working knowledge of all tools, equipment and materials used in building and facility maintenance.
- Ability to work without direct supervision on many occasions.
- Ability to read and interpret basic plans and blueprints.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- Provide, at own cost, a Criminal Record Check.
- Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
- May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence and have an acceptable driving record.
