Purpose of the Position:


This critical role calls for a seasoned mental health professional dedicated to delivering exceptional clinical services to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities within the Muskoka and Parry Sound districts.

As a key member of our Crisis/Intake Clinical Team, the incumbent will ensure the provision of high-quality assessment, intake, and triage services.

Responsibilities extend beyond traditional office hours, encompassing telephone-based support, mobile outreach response, and in-person interactions.

The clinician is also required to manage referrals efficiently and provide immediate and accessible information to consumers accessing our program.

This role involves active participation in a 24/7 on-call service, ensuring continuous support for those in need.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Preferred qualifications include clinical degree (Bachelor's or higher) in Psychology or Social Work and/or are a Registered Nurse or, equivalent.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of serious mental illnesses, usually gained by at least one (1) year of working with this population is also required. Clinical experience with mental health issues is also preferred.
  • Indigenous culture education and awareness is an asset.
  • Ability to be sensitive to and be seen to be sensitive to Indigenous history and its impact on the current health status of the consumers and the communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the operation of agency services and community programs/resources.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and issues related to severe mental illnesses, including their impact upon social, living, learning and earning aspects.
  • Ability to provide effective clinical assessment and service during daytoday interactions with consumers, staff, and volunteers through consultation, modelling, and demonstration of effective service standards and agency philosophy.
  • Ability to assist in decision making regarding consumer need and triage in a clinical team setting.
  • Ability to work autonomously and with a multidisciplinary team in a rural setting.
  • A willingness to serve consumers within the communities of the Districts of Muskoka and Parry Sound.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook Calendaring and consumer information systems.
  • A valid Ontario G or G2 driver's license and a safe reliable means of transportation.
  • A willingness to work shifts (including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays).
  • Bilingual in French is an asset.
  • Indigenous language fluency is an asset

Major Responsibilities:

  • Being readily available at our Parry Sound location to accommodate walkin selfreferrals and manage crisis situations promptly and professionally.
  • Respond to emergency departments in the area, conducting crisis assessments as needed.
  • A majority of your shifts will involve acting as the shift manager for the B'saanibamaadsiwin team, receiving and managing referral and crisis calls as required.
  • Implement recommendations from the Indigenous Opioid strategy for the region.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with key stakeholders in each First Nations community and externally as dictated by the needs of the program.
  • Provide assessments and referrals for individuals and families in collaboration with community workers as agreed upon by consumers.
  • Participate in an afterhours oncall crisis service and assist with the agency's implementation of the 24/7/365 crisis service.
  • Participate in community education and community development activities as required.

Salary scale:
$29.26 to $38.32 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience
