Overview

We are seeking an energetic Accountant to join our Finance team headquartered in Vancouver, BC to support the month-end close process including booking journal entries, preparing monthly management analysis, reconciliations, and updating schedules and lead sheets.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Prepare journal entries for both day-to-day and month-end transactions
  • Preparation of month-end reconciliations, monthly lead sheets, and working papers
  • Maintain and reconcile sub-ledgers to G/L
  • Prepare monthly intercompany working papers and complete monthly analysis
  • Perform variance analysis and present key performance metrics
  • Prepare consolidation working papers and elimination journals
  • Maintains multi-currency foreign exchange rates database and updates in financial database
  • Collection of month-end checklist and preparation of monthly and quarterly audit binders
  • Support Finance/Accounting managers in ad-hoc analysis, valuation models and impairment testing
  • Prepare and maintain tax schedules to support corporate income tax filings

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Promote Westport's H&S culture following all Environmental, and H&S procedures and understanding your obligations and responsibilities
  • Report unsafe conditions, behaviors and all accidents
  • Co-operate with JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) and Safety representative

Position Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting and preferably working towards CPA designation
  • 3- 5 years experience in accounting general
  • Experienced in multi currency translation and intercompany transaction
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computer skills. Experience in Microsoft Excel (Vlookups and Pivot tables)
  • Experience with JD Edwards or similar ERP is an asset
  • Basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Problem-solving skills and able to handle multiple and sometimes competing priorities

Salary Range

This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary within our hiring range of $55,000 to $85,000. Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
