Summary
(Please note, this job posting is for our Edmonton Location)

We are looking for an individual with experience in aerial and underground fiber optic splicing and cable placement. The position involves all facets of fiber splicing including cable preparation, termination, fusion-splicing, testing and troubleshooting.

Essential Functions

  • Splices and tests both aerial and underground fiber optic cabling
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots basic technical problems or issues
  • Reviews, interprets and works with various maps, drawings, blueprints and testing documents
  • Makes splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in underground, aerial and multiple unit work locations
  • Follow company safety standards, policies and procedures at all times
  • Ability to work well independently or as part of a team
  • Comfortable with the increased responsibility of this critical role

Qualifications

  • Fiber splicing experience required
  • Previous telecommunications experience an asset
  • MUST provide a driver's abstract and confirm a minimum of 3 years continuous current insurance with no claims or convictions on record
  • Must be ok with the possibility of working out of town with extended possible overnight stays
  • Grade 12 or GED

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in fiber cable termination with connectors
  • Strong manual dexterity and handeye coordination
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces, and isolation
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere including, but not limited to: carry, raise and climb a ladder, carry, lift and handle heavy equipment (manhole covers, cable reels)
  • Selfdisciplined, motivated, and organized

Salary:
$28.00-$35.00 per hour
