The Universal Group, recognized as one of Canada's best-managed companies in 2023, has an exciting opportunity for an Injury Management Specialist to join our Occupational Health & Safety team.

Reporting to the Health & Wellness Manager, the Injury Management Specialist administration and management of workers' compensation claims and for the planning, coordination, and implementation of return-to-work (RTW) plans, accommodations and other disability management strategies to reduce the impact of work-related injuries.

This role also provides advice and guidance to workers, supervisors, and managers to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, legislation in Quebec and Ontario region.


What you will do:

  • Process, manage and monitor workers' compensation claims
  • Communicate with Workers Compensation Board (WCB) adjudicators and case managers on claims related matters
  • Provide any requested information to the Workers Compensation Board (WCB) in connection to employees' claim or their returntowork
  • Review claims for evidence of preexisting conditions and see cost relief where appropriate
  • Provide guidance and support to injured team members
  • Coordinate all aspects of the returntowork/disability management process
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all claims and disability management cases
  • Support Field staff in the safe operations of their duties
  • Conduct office/ site inspections, complete investigations
  • Provide training, and advice on addressing health and safety issues

What we need from you:

  • Disability management diploma or certificate or Two (2) years of recent, relevant progressive experience in disability management or claims
management may be considered in lieu of the educational requirement Interpreting and applying
legislation and policy. Experience in managing workplace accommodations

  • Capable of handling high volume of complex situations with tact, diplomacy and sensitivity
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Solid knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices, and techniques pertaining to disability management with a focus on occupational injuries and diseases.
  • Good working knowledge of various provincial worker's compensation system including Quebec
  • Willing to travel at different offices in Quebec when required (10%)
  • Proficient in conveying information with effectiveness across various organizational levels
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Proficiency in French and English (oral and written)
