Position Summary


The Lazaridis School of Business & Economics develops leaders with skills in management and economics for a rapidly changing and complex global environment.

It seeks to advance knowledge and practices in these fields by supporting both theoretical and applied research.

Further, the Lazaridis School strives to serve business and its community by fostering mutually beneficial alliances with leaders at local, national, and international levels.


The incumbent is responsible for working with senior leadership at both the Lazaridis School and Financial Resource to develop and implement the Lazaridis School's financial solution to support Laurier's financial strategy, managing the Lazaridis School's budget, participating in special projects, and leading the Lazaridis School's financial team.


The incumbent does this by:

  • Developing and implementing a financial solution for the Lazaridis School in alignment with the strategic documents and priorities of the Lazaridis School and Wilfrid Laurier University;
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and institutional financial policies, procedures, and legislation;
  • Developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with Lazaridis School specific financial procedures;
  • Developing, managing, and providing oversight for the Lazaridis School's budget;
  • Providing term summary reports, annual longitudinal reports, and budget projection reports to the Dean's Leadership Team;
  • Assisting the Senior Administrative Officer with special projects;
  • Collaborating with the campus partners; and,
  • Leading, coaching, and mentoring the Lazaridis School's financial staff to ensure that all invoices, journal vouchers, and other financial data is current and correct.


The incumbent reports to the Senior Administrative Officer of the Lazaridis School and has a reporting line to the Director, Budgets & Planning.

This position also takes guidance from the Dean and Vice Dean of the Lazaridis School.


The incumbent will work closely with the Budget & Planning team in addition to other Financial Resources management leaders to monitor, analyze and report on budgets and actual performance.

The incumbent will be required to use complex financial methods to create modelling, scenario, differential, costing, and investment return analysis to help inform recommendations for day-to-day, short and long-term strategic initiatives.

The reporting requirements and engagement in financial sustainability initiatives has become an important part of the expectations of Finance.

This position has a university-wide mandate and is based at the Waterloo Campus.

The incumbent provides leadership in a multi-campus environment, requiring regular interaction, communication and collaboration with staff and stakeholders at the Waterloo Campus, Brantford Campus and Toronto office and external partners.

The Manager will ensure the unit's policies, programs and services are delivered equitably across all campuses and reflect the needs of local stakeholders.
