How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

Major Responsibilities:

Perform the following tasks under general supervision:

  • Operate and maintain vehicles, sprayers and other assigned tools/equipment safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved project design and details.
  • Ensure health and safety measures are met.
  • Lead daily safety meetings, including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning.
  • Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure safe operation.
  • Complete daily work reports, and project information records as assigned.
  • Assist with the supervision, training, and motivation of junior staff in compliance with the TRCA Health and Safety Policies as well as all relevant Federal, Provincial, and Municipal legislation and regulations.
  • Participate in the collection of field data to identify and guide habitat restoration opportunities.
  • Provide general labour support.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Postsecondary education in ecological restoration, biology, environmental science, resource management or a related field.
Experience

  • Minimum 12 years' experience related to major tasks; experience in ecological restoration, horticulture, commercial landscaping or related field and 1 year of supervisory experience.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Pesticide exterminator license required (or ability to acquire license within 2 months
  • Forestry and/or Landscape).
  • Knowledge of native and invasive plants and proficient plant identification skills.
  • Ability and aptitude to work outdoors in adverse conditions.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to lead a team and participate as team member.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
  • Experience with farm and/or landscaping equipment, including operation of small tools; mechanical knowledge an asset.
  • Good physical fitness required for carrying equipment for extended durations.
  • Computer proficiency with software experience (MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word, ArcMap experience an asset).
  • Familiarity with mapping natural landscape features and reading maps.
  • Valid Ontario G driver's license.
  • Standard First Aid an asset.
  • Chainsaw operation certificate an asset.
