Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary:
$20/hr + 4% vacation pay paid hourly. For 2 weeks of field work, accommodation and per diem provided. For at home data work, home office allowance provided.
Position Duties Include:
Processing camera trap data remotely (vast majority of the work).
Deploying and checking remote wildlife cameras.
Assisting with small mammal live-trapping surveys.
Collecting habitat information on known fisher locations and within fisher home ranges.
Data entry and digitizing data collected in the field.
Similar duties as required.
Access sites via ATV and hiking through thick brush in summer.
Use of inReach communications devices and safety monitoring systems.
Maintenance and repair of field equipment.
Please Note:
flexibility in scheduling, a sharp focus, attention to detail, and safety in the field are essential.
Minimum Qualifications/requirements:
Eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Wage Subsidy Program
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Valid Class 5 BC driver's licence
Valid First Aid (Worksafe BC Level 1)
Competent working with tablets and computers
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience working in the outdoors, in adverse weather and environmental conditions
Competent navigating through complex terrain
Ability to work independently, in a team, and remotely
Asset Qualifications and skillsets:
Familiar with field survey procedures and equipment
Experience driving an All-Terrain-Vehicle
Experience driving a snowmobile
Experience with VHF telemetry
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and technical challenges
Experience in mobile data collection, use of GPS, measuring tools,
Extremely strong attention to detail
A degree, diploma, or enrollment in the natural sciences A passion for conserving native wildlife
