Thomas-Elgin is a partnership between the London District Catholic School Board, Thames Valley District School Board, the London Cross Cultural Learner Centre, LUSO Community Services, YWCA St.

Thomas-Elgin and the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre. SWIS is funded by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Reporting to:

The SWIS Supervisor will be an employee of the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre. Supervision will be provided by the Director of the Newcomer Settlement Services.

Work Timelines:


The SWIS Supervisor's position is an interim full-time position and will run from Monday to Friday beginning July 29th, 2024 to Jan 8th, 2025.

Some evenings and weekends will be required. _
This is a temporary position with possible future management opportunities through the agency. _

Rate of Pay:

$33/hr x 37.5 hours /wk with benefits.

Duties:


The SWIS Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the work of a team of 10+ SWIS workers and providing direct support and assistance to each worker.

The SWIS Supervisor shall collaborate with the SWIS-London Steering Committee, monitoring the implementation of the SWIS-London Operational Guidelines and facilitating a project evaluation process.


Roles and Responsibilities

Administration

  • Develop a system to ensure ongoing outreach with staff.
  • Coordinate the work of the team of SWIS workers in accordance with the Operational Guidelines.
  • Monitor the implementation of the Operational Guidelines as approved by the SWIS-London Steering committee.
  • Provide direct support and assistance to each SWIS worker as needed.
  • Prepare reports as required for the Director of the Newcomer Settlement Services and the SWIS Steering Committee.
  • Monitor and ensure confidential handling of client information and files.
  • Accept other duties assigned by the Director of the Newcomer Settlement Services, South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre that are consistent with program goals.

Training and Resource Development

  • Supervise and train SWIS workers on an ongoing basis.
  • Support the planning and implementation of group sessions.
  • Arrange for training of staff and partners involved in the program in collaboration with the SWIS-London Steering Committee.
  • Recruit community resources for workshops.
  • Provide cultural background information to school boards as needed in collaboration with other SWIS-London Supervisors.
  • Develop and compile resources relative to the needs of newcomer families and schools.
  • Facilitate the development of a SWIS-London worker manual including relevant policies of Service Providers and other partners, the participating Boards, program guidelines and forms, relevant resources (such as immigrant service resource directories, community service directories, cultural profiles), and lines of communication in the program.
  • Participate in networking meetings with other Settlement Workers in Schools programs.
Reporting and Evaluation

  • Meet the expected target numbers for the SWIS programs as specified on Schedule
  • Upload Narrative APPR reports on iCARE or other IRCC database.
  • Provide a regular update to the Director of the Newcomer Settlement Services
  • Coordinate, collect, and interpret data from the program.
  • Conduct needs assessments and evaluations of the program and client needs to identify program gaps and weaknesses in collaboration with the SWIS-London Steering Committee.
  • Facilitate a project evaluation process in collaboration with the SWIS-London Steering Committee.

Program Development and Management

  • Develop and oversee implementation of SWIS plan for summer programming.
  • Negotiate program needs with school principals/designates based on client needs.
  • Monitor local demographics and develop a service contingency plan for sudden changes.
  • Research alternative models of service delivery and propose adaptations to improve existing models.

Lines of Communication

  • Develop effective network, partnership, and working relationships with other service providers.
  • Facilitate communication with principals/designates, Board contacts, SWIS-London workers, and the SWIS-London Steering Committee.
  • Promote the Program throughout the community in collaboration with SWIS-London partners.

Job Expectations

  • Provide clientcentered services in a supportive and culturallysensitive manner.
  • Operate in accordance with policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols of the SLNRC, Thames Valley District School Board, London Catholic District School Board, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
  • Participate as a member of Service Provider staff team by furthering collective team goals.
  • Represent the principles and values of the SLNRC.
  • Promote and demonstrate sensitivity to crosscultural issues.
  • Remain current on relevant information, policies and legislation.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer post secondary education in Social Services or relate
