Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Clinical intake assessments of presenting mental health situation and student needs, including risk of self-harm using standardized screenings and probing questions.
  • Collecting information on any current mental health diagnoses, medications, etc.
  • Determining next steps, ranging from selfhelp apps, workshops, 1:1 counselling to crisis intervention (calling 911).
  • In collaboration with the HWAS faculty and staff, will codevelop, coorganize and participate in events, workshops and promotional activities within HWAS
  • Participating in case consultations with HWAS clinicians, including physicians, nurses, and counsellors for incoming students presenting with mental health concerns
  • In collaboration with the HWAS faculty and staff, will codevelop, coorganize and participate in events, workshops and promotional activities within HWAS
  • Creating, maintaining and accessing confidential personal health documentation of students in compliance with accepted practices, PHIPA legislation and professional standards
  • Ensuring appropriate contact with external supports, including but not limited to calling 911 or COAST

Qualifications:

  • Fouryear degree in health or mental health, such as nursing or social work, leading to a membership as a regulated health care professional.
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed within a Regulated Health and/or Mental Health Profession within the province of Ontario.
  • Postgraduate certificate or equivalent in mental health care or intervention (520 hours).
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience of progressive clinical experience in a mental health setting, preferably with young adults. Experience to include clinical intake and triage assessment in a health setting.
  • Demonstrated experience providing counselling/mental health/crisis services.
  • Experience in delivering culturally appropriate services to a diverse population of clients or students.
  • Excellent written/oral communication, organizational, problem solving, analytical and teamwork skills.
