Position


Working in the ABMI's Operations Centre, the Biodiversity Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the design and delivery of collaborative monitoring projects across a breadth of ecological topics, for example, wetlands and habitat mapping, species monitoring of multiple taxonomic groups, and ecological data initiatives.

This is a highly collaborative position, serving as the point of connection between multiple internal and external partners.

Duties

  • Facilitates Collaborative Programs


Leads and facilitates the development of biodiversity programs as they support the needs of end-users, ABMI partners, and ABMI's Strategic Plan.


  • Works with government, industry, nongovernment organizations, and the scientific community to understand the knowledge needs of the natural resource management system
  • Fosters and maintains ongoing relationships with multiple external project collaborators
  • Engages endusers in dialogue about the potential benefits of ABMI data and knowledge products
  • Develops a shared vision and understanding among and across project teams
  • Fosters and maintains an ongoing relationship across multiple ABMI centres to ensure working knowledge of advancements in ABMI biodiversity monitoring science and information management
  • Leads and Manages Biodiversity Programs


Provides leadership and expertise related to the planning and implementation of multiple biodiversity programs across a breadth of topics that vary over time.


  • Develops and manages project work plans that support the information needs of the natural resource management system
  • Ensures the successful completion of work plans on time and on budget through effective project management, including tracking deliverables and interdependencies, breaking down and prioritizing tasks, ensuring open lines of communication across the project teams, and coordinating frequent team meetings and discussions
  • Supports clarification of project roles and responsibilities, identification of resources and delegation of tasks
  • Develops collaborative relationships with appropriate collaborators and service providers (e.g., contractual agreements with contractors).
  • Coordinates independent scientific review of project products as required.
  • Directs and Undertakes Project Work
Works independently, with ABMI senior leadership, ABMI staff, and project collaborators to conduct necessary project work.

  • Supports the full project lifecycle including initiation (e.g., proposal writing), planning, delivery, data management and analysis, project performance and control, and reporting
  • Supports logístical planning and field delivery (e.g., protocol development, site selection, training, data upload and checking)
  • Schedules, organizes and facilitates project meetings, including tracking and following up with project team members on action items
  • Maintains project documentation
  • Identifies issues and leads teams through problemsolving
  • Critically reviews existing literature, including academic journals and other sources, for information needed to design and implement ABMI projects
  • Supports Knowledge Dissemination
Facilitates direct and indirect understanding of ABMI knowledge among environmental resource managers, policy analysts, and the public.
