Since its inception in 1972, Mission Community Services has maintained a focus on helping fellow community members who need assistance to cope with the realities of life.
What started out as neighbours helping neighbours over 50 years ago has evolved into an organization that operates dozens of programs applicable to virtually all populations in the community.
We are seeking a part-time Settlement & Integration Worker who will help new Canadians settle into the District of Mission by providing necessary supports to ensure a smooth integration.
These supports include, but are not limited to, providing information about available services/programs in our schools and community, conducting needs assessments and delivering cross-cultural education sessions to school aged children and youth.
What you'll do
- Work as part of the team to develop and implement strategies to engage New Canadians.
- Provide guidance, outreach, and support to refugees experiencing difficulties with settlement and integration to assist them in problemsolving and accessing appropriate services and resources.
- Plan and/or conduct group information sessions on topics related to settlement.
- Provide orientation services and needs assessment to clients; and provide information about and referrals to community resources.
- Support the delivery of MCSS services to New Canadians.
- Remain current and knowledgeable on legislation, programs, and information necessary to Multicultural Services.
- Provide support for the delivery of presentations to the public on Multicultural Program and related topics.
- Support activities which promote multiculturalism and highlight many benefits of cultural diversity in our community.
- Maintain records, statistics, and all required documentation. Provides reports on clients as required.
- Maintain liaison with other agencies, professionals, and the community.
What you bring
- Diploma in a related human/social service field plus a minimum of one year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to MCSS
- Proficiency in a second language, preferably Arabic or French
- Successful completion of a criminal record check is required
Wage grid 10:
$21.63 to $25.19, plus 10.2% in lieu of vacation and statutory holidays, per current BCGEU Collective Agreement.
