Position Summary

Responsibilities

  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment through communication and action, based on the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion with all students, faculty, staff, external partners and community members
  • Engage students by creating a positive and accepting space for learning
  • Use academic technology (i.e. Bright Space) to effectively teach online courses and support the learning environment
  • Employs and adapts appropriate teaching/learning strategies to the targeted audience; examines ongoing learning materials and classroom instructional methods to eliminate potential bias or barriers; revise and update learning resources every year
  • Develop, revise, adapt and provide appropriate learning materials/resources for students
  • Actively contribute knowledge and share best practices to support curriculum development and revision
  • Participate in Reflective Practice for Professional Development and faculty related activities/events
  • Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques
  • Accurately maintain student records (attendance, grades/assessments, etc.)

Qualifications/Experience

  • PhD Degree in English Literature, Composition, Applied Linguistics/Linguistics, Education, or Adult Education required; a doctorate degree in Humanities with relevant postsecondary English teaching experience will be considered.
  • Proof of English language ability through internationally recognized English assessment (e.g. IELTS) required should education be received outside a primarily Englishspeaking country or in an institution where language of instruction was not English
  • TESL Canada or TESL Ontario certification required; must hold an active TESL membership with OCELT designation
  • Minimum five (5) years relevant teaching experience of English and/or Communications credit courses at the postsecondary level up to and including CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark) 9 or higher
  • Proven experience in course design and learning materials development for all students including those who require learning accommodations
  • Demonstrated ability using technology in the classroom and in an online environment; experience with Brightspace and/or Learning Management Systems (LMS) a definite asset
  • Demonstrated skills in communication, critical thinking and research, reading and composition to college students
  • Has a strong understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion principles and is committed to meet the needs of all students, staff and the college community
  • Adaptable and flexible to change and desires to work collaboratively and positively with others in a team environment
  • Experience teaching Professional Report Writing and Business Communication courses an asset
