JOB SUMMARY:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provide administrative duties for the Archaeology and Environmental Monitoring team, as well as the Field Programs Manager - Monitoring. Familiarity with both archaeology and environmental fields is an asset. The listed duties are not intended to describe every function that may be performed by this position.

The omission of specific statements does not preclude management from assigning additional duties not listed if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.


  • Assist in the management of the archaeology and environmental monitoring initiatives.
  • Provide written responses to internal and external departments.
  • Communicate with coworkers, clients (proponents, consultants, etc.), other First Nation governments, Tsleil-Waututh community members, and other levels of government (e.g. BC Archaeology Branch)
  • Coordinate and schedule field staff, perform site visits and inspections as required.
  • Review and comment on archaeological and environmental field reports.
  • Manage safety and professional development training for Archaeology and Environmental Monitors
  • Prepare invoices for fieldwork and manage filing system related to projects.
  • Troubleshoot, evaluate processes, and strive for improvements.
  • Conduct risk assessments for cultural and environmental resources.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee activities and schedule of the Archaeology and Environmental Monitors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred
  • Degree with Archaeology or Environmental orientation.
  • Understanding of Indigenous rights and title, particularly in the context of B.C.
  • Business knowledge from working in a business environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teamwork environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office Programs, Adobe, and Internet
  • Good organization and communication skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems in a culturally appropriate manner and deal with a variety of variables in situations.
  • Selfmotivated; attentive to detail; able to work independently and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and cooperation.
  • Class 5 driver's licence
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal Record Check.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Demands

  • Significant desk work with long periods of manual dexterity activities (keyboard operations, filing).
  • Occasional field work in variable weather.
  • Works with potentially dangerous machinery (e.g. excavators, heavy machinery).
  • Repetitive actions, such as lifting and bending.

  • Ability to synthesize complex and diverse information.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, objective, and constructive.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Must model adherence to established systems and processes.
  • Provide detailed and comprehensive strategic advice with little notice.
  • Highly developed ability to work under pressure.
  • Responds quickly to reassignment of priorities.

Environmental Conditions

  • Dynamic environment with multiple demands, changing priorities and constant interruptions.
  • Highly sensitive legal, confidential, and political issues and environment.
  • Engagement with outside consultants, other departments, levels of government and First Nations.
  • Occasional meetings outside normal office hours.
