'''Overview:


We are currently seeking a Camp Assistant to join our team providing world-class sea kayak vacations on Spring Island, Kyuquot, British Columbia for Full-time/part-time work from mid-June to early September.

Preference for someone interested in working for multiple summers, familiar with outdoor adventure settings, comfortable in multi-faceted team environment with frequent guest interactions, and living/camping in the outdoors on a remote small island in the Pacific, with limited access to phone and internet.

This is a temporary position that offers flexible hours and a rewarding experience.

Duties:

  • Assisting our camp chef, management and guiding staff with meal preparations, presentation, and packing for day trips and multiday expeditions.
- dish cleaning and maintaining sanitary surfaces for food preparation, storage, and waste
- cleaning and preparing guests tents during trip "change over" days, and outhouses on a daily basis.
- daily camp care for guest safety and comfort, including the aesthetic, safety and function of camp infrastructure and systems, e.g. shower area, wash up area, rain water collection, drinking water, trails, tent paths, beach access paths, fire ring, meadow, outhouses, drying shelter, etc.associated with day trips and at the end of multi-day expeditions.
- maintaining positive interactions with guests and co-workers throughout the day, including at meal times and during unscheduled periods
- will also learn from and work with local Aboriginal friends and family from the Kyuquot/Checlesaht First Nations, including some combined meal prep each week.
- cleaning, rinsing, drying kayaking and camping equipment

  • Monitor and assess student progress

Skills:

  • Foodsafe Level 1 preferred
  • First Aid training considered an asset
- flexible and accommodating approach to interacting with others, solution-oriented
- independent work ethic (self-starter) showing initiative balanced with ability to work as a team
- depending on applicants' experience, certifications, and interests, this position could be expanded to also include camp maintenance (including solar/electrical systems), boat operations, kayak guiding/assisting, and other aspects of managing operations and/or logistics
- experience working and living in a remote location; familiar with wilderness camping and some sea kayaking experience preferred
- strong personal hygiene and attention to detail

  • World Host (formerly Superhost), First Host, or similar customer training considered an asset
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently

Hours/Realities of Work:


Full-time from late June to early September; schedule includes flexibility for time off each day, and throughout the summer, and can be adjusted to fit the needs of the successful applicant.

When on scheduled days off, the Camp Assistant will be expected to find suitable accommodations elsewhere on Vancouver Island.
